Do you accept credit cards?
We do accept MasterCard, Visa & Discover. These transactions however must be pre-approved during regular business hours. You may also request a credit application that when approved will allow you an in house charge account.
Do you offer new customer incentives?
At Cleghorn Oil we feel all our customers are equally important. Although new customers are our future, our old customers helped us build our company to what it is today. We therefore do not believe in “gimmicks” or “freebies” for new customers only. If and when we do put an incentive out there, it will always be available to all our customers.
When is the best time to order oil?
The best time to order oil is when your tank is at ¼ for several reasons:
- To insure you can take the 150-gallon minimum.
- To insure you don't get charged a higher price per gallon by not taking the minimum delivery.
- If you have an older house or oil tank, you could have sediment build up. By ordering at ¼ full, it helps to prevent possible filter clogging and costly line replacement. In #2 home heating fuel, there is sediment after many years this sediment builds up at the bottom of your tank and is most commonly referred to as sludge.
- At ¼ you have plenty of oil (approx. 65 gallons) to last you for 5-14 days depending on your house size and the temperature outside.
Why is it bad to run out of oil?
In your tank there is sludge built up from the sediment in the oil, after years of deliveries the sludge builds up and when you run out and then we deliver the oil, the oil going in stirs up all the sludge that sits on the bottom of the tank and accumulates near the feed hole for the filter. as the furnace draws the oil from the tank to the unit the sludge goes through the filter, lines, pump screen, and nozzle usually clogging one or more of them and causing more problems and money.
What is automatic delivery and does it cost more?
Our automatic deliveries are based on a degree-day system. We encourage all customers to be on automatic. It is basically worry-free and does not cost more. As with anything, there is a small margin for miscalculation. We do ask that you check your gauge once in a while.
When do your guaranteed price programs start?
Special budget programs start June 1st. Other cap price programs usually start around the beginning of July.
Do you offer burner service?
We offer burner service through numerous reputable companies. We have a long list and can usually offer a customer a choice of 2 or 3. By using independent companies for service, we are able to keep our overhead down and in turn offer you the lowest prices possible on your heating oil.
How much storage do you have and what are the benefits?
We have nearly 1 million gallon storage capacity. This large capacity allows us to meet our customers heating oil needs even when product is scarce and demand is high.
Do you make emergency deliveries?
We do make emergency deliveries during reasonable hours, but we encourage you to call before you are in that situation. Emergency deliveries are very costly to you and us. There is a 200-gallon minimum and an overtime charge.
Do you have an answering service for after hours?
After hours we utilize a voicemail messaging system. However, we urge you to place your orders directly with our staff and during regular hours, to avoid the chance of error. Also, if you do use our voicemail, please be sure to listen to the menu carefully and avoid using the emergency option, unless you require an emergency response.
